Ann Friedman

Podcaster

I’m Ann Friedman, a journalist who writes about gender, media, politics, and culture. I co-host the podcast Call Your Girlfriend. And I send out a weekly email newsletter full of digital treats.

You can find my writing at NYmag.com and The Los Angeles Times, where I am a regular contributor. I'm also a contributing editor to The Gentlewoman and I write sporadically for outlets such asCalifornia SundayThe New Republic, The New York Times Book Review, ELLE, and The Guardian. I also make hand-drawn pie charts and do some public speaking.

I grew up in eastern Iowa, studied journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and have since moved back and forth between America's coasts. (I prefer the west.) I was an editor for several years before I became a writer. My last staff job was as the executive editor of GOOD magazine. After I was fired along with my colleagues in 2012, we created a crowd-funded magazine called Tomorrow. I've been self-employed ever since. I live in Los Angeles.
