David Graeber was an iconoclastic anthropologist and influential radical thinker. An anarchist, he was a leading figure in the Occupy Wall Street movement who popularized the rallying cry "We are the 99%." He died on Sept. 2 in Venice, Italy at age 59.

Graeber burst into public consciousness with his 2011 book "Debt: The First 5000 Years." He was not only a deep thinker but also funny in conversation. "To the Best of Our Knowledge" interviewed him twice over the years. We’re pleased to share those conversations in order to celebrate his remarkable life.
